In Memory of Demetrius Shering Vanschiak

Orlando Florida - October 15th, 2011 - Bay News Channel 9
A house party turned deadly after a teen was shot and killed Saturday night. Orange County deputies said about 50-60 people were at a party inside a a vacant home on Spruce Ridge Drive. During the party, the victim, 18-year-old Demetrius Shering Vanschiak, had some sort of confrontation and was shot. Vanschiak was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later died. Authorities are continuing their investigation.

About Demetrius
He was a promising young man who had a bright future ahead of him. Teen violence often makes no logical sense and destroys the lives of all parties involved. Each lost child must be remembered and is a call to action. Here is how Bring Kids Home and our network of dedicated volunteers is working to remember Demetrius.

Eddie in Orlando: Grief Counseling
Eddie knew Demetrius and was a mentor and father figure to a young man who needed a place to turn. Eddie provided grief counseling to family members and spoke at his memorial service. Eddie has his own son to raise; but he took the time to assist Dementrius whenever he could.

Christine in Ohio: Teen Violence Book
As a volunteer working from Ohio, Christine did not know Demetrius personally but she has volunteered to research and help build a Book on Teen Violence. This book will be distributed free of charge to teens and schools. Christine has also worked on other educational projects for Bring Kids Home.

Alex in Georgia:
Stop Teen Violence Song
As a volunteer, Alex is using his musical talents in song writing to create a song dedicated to Demetrius with words against Teen Violence. Bring Kids Home will publish the song on iTunes so other teens can hear the words. Before becoming a Bring Kids Home volunteer, Alex wrote and produced the Caylee Marie song.

This tragedy demonstrates how the Bring Kids Home Team pitches in from around the USA to work on generating something positive from such a terrible event. We need more people willing to step up and work on creative solutions, if you have ideas or skills you want to contribute volunteer and join us.

Projects such as these don't just happen automatically, they take time, money, and resources to deliver tools to schools, parents, and children. Perhaps you don't have time to volunteer or work on a project, but you can provide a donation to support these efforts.

If a single child reads our book or listens to our song and a single child is saved, our efforts are rewarded.
